UCP Holds Appreciation Ceremony

Eleven High School/High Tech students with disabilities, along with their families, employers and other supporters, celebrated the successful completion of their paid summer internships on August 4, 2005.

Sponsored by the HIGH SCHOOL HIGH TECH Program at UCP of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties, this event recognized high school students who worked at the Goddard Space Flight Center and Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

The students’ experiences varied, but their enthusiasm and their spirit did not — they all said that they learned a lot and that the internship was an enjoyable and unforgettable growth experience.  Some students were back for their second year.  All gained knowledge, skills and exposure, which will help them decide on plans for higher education.

Interns at Goddard worked in the IT Department and in Logistics, and performed tasks that included data entry, database development, technology inventory and web design.  Those at Agricultural Research developed spreadsheets, performed database work, graphic design, chemical experiment protocol design, and even accompanied engineers in the field.

Congratulations to a great group of students and their very proud parents!
